The Center for the Study of Ethics and Values is one of six Centers of Excellence that reflect of Hiram College’s distinctiveness and build on its strengths. The Centers encourage faculty and students to collaborate across the disciplines.
The Center for the Study of Ethics and Values intentionally and systematically makes explicit what has always been embedded in a good liberal arts education. Instead of isolating an ethics education in one or a few departments, the Center guides an ethics-across-the-College effort that encourages the academic, athletics, and student life divisions to bring the insights of a liberal education to bear on ethical concerns. Such “ethical humanism” equips students to think with insight and maturity and to apply a broad humanistic perspective to an array of ethical issues that affect a person’s daily life.
